The Queen Elisabeth Hall

Client : KMDA

The Queen Elisabeth Hall project in Antwerp was focussed around the refurbishment of a tired, 1950's concert venue. The scheme created a new, acoustically exemplary performance venue with over 2,000 seats and integrated this within existing 19th century listed buildings to deliver a flexible conference centre, public foyer, atrium, new offices and rehearsal spaces for the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

The fire engineering challenges on the scheme were significant; as a high occupancy venue located in the heart of the scheme, the project required special approval from the highest ministerial levels due to the local fire code requirements along with extensive computational studies to demonstrate that safety could be achieved
