The fire engineering consultancy formerly known as Olsson Fire & Risk UK Ltd has today rebranded in the UK as OFR Consultants, a move which comes after a successful year operating as a fully UK-owned business.
The change reflects the decision by other divisions of the Olsson brand in Australia and New Zealand which have decided to join the New Zealand-based professional service business GHD; shareholders of the business operating under the Olsson brand in the UK opted to retain independence and will now trade as OFR Consultants.
The legal entity in the UK does not change with this re-brand, a move which signals OFR’s ambition to continue providing independent high quality, technically-led fire safety solutions as well as a dedication to research which advances the market’s understanding of the correlation between fire, people and structure.
Founding UK director Simon Lay explained: “It’s been an exciting few months; we were consulted on the changes in ANZ by our colleagues in the Southern hemisphere but our commitment to an independent future and the UK shareholders’ ambitions for the team meant we decided to opt out of the buyout and invest instead in our independent growth in the UK.
“We are wholly owned by our internal UK shareholders, all of which are part of the growing team of fire engineering experts that have been delivering solutions on behalf of our clients. Our internal ownership model gives staff the opportunity to have an active role in the future of this growing consultancy, whilst our independence ensure a flexibility and ability to rapidly respond to the needs of our clients.”
Originally established in 2016 as the UK arm of the international consultancy Olsson Fire & Risk, the team has been led by Simon alongside directors Sam Liptrott, Andy Passingham and Ryan McCreadie. They’ve turned the business into a 40-strong, £4million turnover organisation with offices in Manchester, London, Leeds, Bath, Oxford, Glasgow and Edinburgh. UK co-founder Sam Liptrott continued: “With this re-brand, we remain the same company, located in the same offices with the same people continuing to deliver on our projects. Our delivery model continues to be focussed on being responsive to client needs and is backed up by our collective technical excellence. The move away from the Olsson brand simply allows us to better express our UK shareholder ownership model.”
In its two year existence, OFR Consultants has developed a solid reputation in the market by delivering high quality fire engineering support on major UK and international projects such as the redevelopment of central Tottenham Hale, Google Kings Cross, Urban Splash’s New Islington and iconic sites such as The All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Museum of London and Twickenham Stadium. The core of the business is fire safety experts who have previously worked within globally renowned engineering consultancies, although in 2018 the business has embarked on a long-term strategy of bringing new talent into the sector as demand is set to increase.
